Schoenerbrik Jannes van Campen, a sailing ship with 2 masts and impressive rigging, is moored in Hanseatic city of Kampen, a city that is inextricably linked to water thanks to its Hanseatic past. Jannes van Campen was originally built in 1936 as a fishing vessel and has served for years in national waters. During the war the ship was confiscated by the Germans and brought to Hanover. Towards the end of the war, the rightful owner brought the ship back in the middle of the night. The current owner bought it from an elderly couple who sailed to Portugal with it, now Kampen has been home to Jannes van Campen for almost 20 years.

The Jannes van Campen has the Ketelmeer as its sailing area. This randmeer was created in 1956 at the impoldering of East Flevoland. It is now a beautiful sailing area where many water birds come to rest and forage in large numbers.
