Whiskey trip to Islay-Jura-Mull

A wonderful sailing trip with the Flying Dutchman to the most famous whiskey distilleries on Mull, Jura and the ultimate whiskey paradise Islay. This will be an unforgettable voyage of discovery along the Scottish west coast and to the Hebrides aboard the Flying Dutchman. An exciting trip through the Hebrides in a fantastic area, so this trip is also very suitable for those who are not interested in visiting whiskey distilleries.

Travel schedule

The indicated program is a guide and can be adjusted under the influence of weather, currents and wind. Flexibility is the rule on this journey.

Day 1 - Oban
After boarding, you will meet the other guests and the crew during dinner. This is followed by a delicious meal and you raise your glass to a beautiful whiskey journey.
Oban is a beautifully situated city at the foot of the Lorn Mountains. High above the city is McCraighs Tower, a nineteenth century replica of the Collosseum. Oban is sometimes called the pearl of the western highlands, with its winding streets and picturesque bay full of yachts, ferries and small fishing boats. The Flying Dutchman is located on the north pier, less than a hundred meters from the famous Oban whiskey distillery.

Day 2 - Mull
After a good breakfast, the journey continues to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. Along the way, the crew gives sailing instructions so that everyone can and may help hoist the sails. On the way we sail right past the beautifully restored Duart Castle. Picturesque Tobermory is the largest town on the island, located in the northeast. You can visit the local distillery here.

Day 3 - Staffa and Iona
The uninhabited island of Staffa is famous for Fingal's cave. The awe-inspiring cathedral-like cave, 70m long and 20m high, is helpless against the constant waves of the Atlantic Ocean. This place inspired Mendelsohn to “Hebridean Overture”. It is an unforgettable experience to go to this remote piece of rock by zodiac. Puffins can also be found on Staffa.
The small island of Iona is located at the South-West point of Mull. In Gealic / Celtic: Chaluim Chille, the island of Colm Cille, an Irish priest and prince who would later become Saint Columba. This small island has a unique place in the history of Scotland. It ignites the imagination of thousands who travel here every year such as monks, pilgrims, clan heads and kings. During the sailing trip from one island to the other you may see giant sharks, minke whales and dolphins.

Day 4 and 5 - Port Ellen - Islay
Today the ship sails on to Islay, the whiskey island par excellence. Islay owes its fame to the 9 distilleries, which produce millions of liters of liquid gold. Because of the various taxes levied on alcohol, it is said to be the most heavily taxed part of Great Britain.
Many distilleries have their own jetty. Sailing this way you can visit Lagavullin, Ardbeg and Bunnahabhain.

Day 6 - Jura
The ship sails on to Jura and to the Isle off Jura distillery. The island of Jura is a paradise of pristine wilderness and natural beauty. The name Jura comes from Norwegian and means 'Deer Island', still an appropriate name because some 5.500 deer outnumber the human population of 180.
Wildlife enthusiasts can find more than 100 species of birds, such as puffins, golden eagles, as well as goats, seals, rabbits, hares, stoats and otters. You can take a trip to the remote farm of Banhill, 37 kilometers north of Craighhouse.

Day 7 - Scottish West Coast
On the return trip to Oban you sail along the beautiful Scottish West Coast with a view of the Isle of Mull and beautiful views of the unspoilt Scottish nature.

Day 8 - Oban
