Crossing Rotterdam - Tenerife

Friday 13 November 2020 17: 00 t / m Thursday 03 December 2020 9: 00

Unforgettable crossing from Rotterdam to Tenerife

While it is autumn in the Netherlands, the Oosterschelde leaves for a sunny winter destination: via Tenerife to Cape Verde. This long sea voyage offers the opportunity to experience real sailor life. You are part of the crew and you participate in the watch system.

During a mile marker, a ship makes few stops. This trip is therefore not intended for people who come for 'sightseeing'. You will stay on board the three-master for four weeks! A voyage of more than 2500 nautical miles lies ahead.

Travel information

The Oosterschelde will be moored in the Leuvenhaven in Rotterdam on November 13. When you come on board, the coffee is ready, also for family and friends who bring you. There is plenty of time to show them the ship. The captain welcomes all guests and once everyone is on board he will inform everyone of the safety procedures and other rules on board and discuss plans for the upcoming voyage.

Via the North Sea you sail towards the English Channel and then the ship crosses the Bay of Biscay. This first part of the trip you can have to deal with bad weather and it will be quite cold at sea.

The ship may make a stop in Vigo, on the Spanish coast just above Portugal. Here you can go ashore to visit the city or just sit on a terrace. After this visit, the tour continues along the Portuguese coast further south and gradually it gets less cold.

Once past Cabo São Vicente, one can expect good weather and favorable winds towards the Canary Islands. The Oosterschelde expects to arrive in Tenerife on December 2. After a day exploring the island, the ship will sail on to Cape Verde.

General

A mileage maker is a journey that takes the ship from A to B in the shortest possible time. Depending on the weather, a mileage maker can take one or two days longer or shorter. You pay a fixed price for participation, regardless of the duration of the trip. This itinerary is intended to give an impression of what a trip might look like. Depending on the weather and wind, the itinerary can be adjusted, but we always try to sail as much as possible.

This trip is only suitable for the experienced and fit sea traveler. During a crossing or long journey, there are few options for diverting to a port and medical care is not available within 24 hours.

The crew would like the Oosterschelde to be accessible to the widest possible public, but you must realize that a sea voyage on board a sailing ship requires more of you physically than a daily walk. One journey is also more challenging than the other. Not sure whether a trip is suitable? Please contact the office to discuss this.
