Sailing Scotland Hebrides

Wonderful tour of the Small Isles and Skye

If there is still untouched wild nature in Europe, it is on the islands on the Scottish west coast. The whimsical nature of Skye makes it one of the most beautiful islands in Europe for many. Along the way you have the chance to see dolphins and whales. Green mountains, crystal clear lakes and babbling brooks make it a top destination for nature lovers. The Small Isles & Skye are one of the most beautiful destinations in Europe for a nature holiday and are much more unspoilt than the highlands.

Travel information

The indicated program is a guide and can be adjusted under the influence of weather, currents and wind. Flexibility is the rule on this journey.

Day 1 Oban
The tour starts in Oban, a cozy fishing village located in a beautiful bay. From 18.00 pm everyone is welcomed on board to meet the crew and fellow passengers. This is followed by a welcome dinner and everyone raises a glass to a beautiful journey.

Day 2 Muck
After a good breakfast the ship sails to Mull. The space and vistas of the Isle of Mull show you the beauties of unspoilt Scotland. Of course you sail right past the beautiful Duart Castle, which is certainly a beautiful and impressive sight from the water. After the sound off Mull you pass the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse a 36 meter high granite tower that rises almost 55 meters above sea level. The lighthouse was built in 1849 with granite from the opposite island of Mull.

Ardnamurcham is a peninsula and Ardnamurchan Point is the most westerly point of the British mainland. On the north side you look out at Skye, Muck, Eigg and Rum. The lighthouse is still in operation, although today it functions fully automatically. The huge red foghorn no longer works. The ship moors here at the Muck ferry pier.

Day 3 Eigg & Rum
The Scottish island of Eigg is perhaps the greenest island in the world. And that has not only to do with the pristine landscape. Since February 1, 2008, the island has its own and independent electricity network. The electricity is generated sustainably by a combination of solar cells, wind turbines and hydropower. In 1997, the residents bought the island from the previous owner. This makes Eigg the first Scottish island to be owned by its inhabitants. Anyone who lives on the island for more than six months automatically becomes a member of the residents' committee. According to some islanders, the success of the electricity network is due to the fact that every resident has a say in the placement of solar panels and wind turbines.

After lunch you will sail to Rum, this beautiful island is filled to the brim with breathtaking views. An eccentric castle, diverse wildlife and deserted beaches are the draw of this undiscovered gem to the west of Scotland. Rum is perhaps the most suitable destination of all the Scottish islands for a relief-rich walking tour – mountain passes, waterfalls, valleys and beaches all pass by.

Day 4 Skye
Today will be a beautiful sailing day and the journey will go to Skye. Skye is one of Scotland's largest islands and is located in the North West Highlands. It belongs to the Inner Hebrides. The North West of Scotland is quite rugged and mountainous and so is Skye. You will only find small villages here such as Broadford, Uig and Portree, the largest settlement. Certain parts of the island have the status of National Scenic Area, so you could say extra worthwhile. These are the Trotternish Peninsula in the north and the Cuillin Hills in the centre. The captain sails to the tiny village of Carbost where he moors at the old jetty of Talisker.

Day 5 Skye
Today everyone can explore Skye in their own way, for example with a visit to the Talisker distillery. You can also explore the special island with the regional bus, where you should certainly not forget the cozy Portree, capital of Skye.

Day 6 Tobermory
This day the journey continues to Tobermory through a beautiful area with undoubtedly beautiful photo opportunities. Tobermory is a quaint fishing village with colorful waterside houses and its small but famous whiskey distillery. You can of course visit the distillery where you can get a tour or visit the small Mull museum, the sea aquarium or the many nice shops.

Day 7 Sailing along the Scottish west coast
This day is a wonderful sailing trip back to Oban. You will enjoy the unspoilt, wild nature of the islands of the Scottish west coast and it is quite possible that you will see dolphins, they swim next to and under the ship as if they want to play. Seals and special birds such as Gannets can also be seen here.

Day 8 Oban
After an extensive breakfast it is unfortunately time to say goodbye and look back on a wonderful journey of discovery to the Small Isles and Skye.
