sail and bike bicycle and sail

Wonderful versatile cycling holiday on Danish islands

The Danish Baltic Sea area offers an enchanting mix of endless sandy beaches, sparkling white chalk cliffs, countless islands and small harbors with colorful houses. You can explore this beautiful world by bike and ship: a great combination to get a total picture of this relatively unknown area in Europe.

The Atlantis calls at various ports and bays. You can explore the area further by bicycle. While you are en route, the ship will sail to the next port to meet you again. In some bays the crew will use the dinghy to take you to and from the beautiful spot where the Atlantis is anchored.

A cycling guide accompanies you to the most beautiful places and main attractions in the area. Of course you can also go out without a guide. Would you rather enjoy a day on board of barkentine Atlantis? That's fine too!

Possible program

Day 1 Kiel-Holtenau
The crew welcomes you aboard the Atlantis. You can take up residence in the cozy cabin. During dinner on board you will get to know the crew and other travel companions.

Day 2 Kiel-Holtenau, sailing to Bagenkop on the island of Langeland (approx. 15 km)
The destination of the first crossing is the Danish island of Langeland. After the first breakfast on board the Atlantis, set sail with the crew and enjoy the crossing. Around 15.00:XNUMX PM the ship reaches Bagenkop, a quiet harbor on the southern tip of the island. After a short introduction to cycling in groups, you will get a first impression of the country and its people during an afternoon bike ride. Along the way you pass Langelandfoort, where a Danish checkpoint was located during the Cold War. The route then heads to a privately owned lighthouse, where there is time for a short walk along the beach. With a bit of luck you will see the wild horses of Langeland along the way. Spend the evening aboard the Atlantis in Bagenkop Harbour.

Day 3 Bagenkop - Svendborg (approx. 55 km/130 m)
After breakfast you will cycle north on the island of Langeland. Characteristic of Langeland are the hat-shaped hills that formed at the end of the last ice age and of which more than a thousand can be found on the island. They ensure that the bike ride always goes up and down a bit. At Rudkøbing one leaves Langeland via a bridge to the small island of Siø, which in turn is connected by a bridge to the slightly larger island of Tåsinge. Here Valdemars Slot and the pretty village of Troense invite you to stay for a while.

Another bridge will eventually take you to Svendborg on the island of Funen. Here, in one of the most beautiful towns in Denmark, the ship will spend the night.

Day 4 Svendborg - Fåborg (approx. 48 km/220 m)
After breakfast, the cycle route continues through quiet residential areas to the coast of Funen. The first half of the trip is almost flat and leads along the sea. The view wanders to the island of Tåsinge and the numerous sailboats that populate the narrow passage between the two islands. Towards the middle of the bike ride you leave the coastal area and start the climb to the so-called Funener Alps. But don't worry: what are called the Alps here, reach a height of just over 100 meters with some effort. The path leads past large farms and impressive country houses.

You end the day with a crossing through the island world of the Danish South Sea from Fåborg to Søby on the island of Ærø.

Day 5 Tour through Aero and crossing to Kiel Holtenau (approx. 36 km/200 hm)
Today you will discover the enchanting island of Aero by bike. The small seafarers island has a charm all of its own and takes you 100 years back in time. Early in the afternoon you reach Aeroskobing, where you can marvel at the many ships in bottles and explore the quaint old town: small colorful houses, an idyllic market square with water pumps, and half-timbered houses. The route then leads back to Soby, where the Atlantis is already waiting for you for a longer crossing to Kiel Holtenau. The captain's dinner is the culmination of an eventful day.

Day 6 Kiel
After an extensive breakfast, the suitcases are packed again and it is time to say goodbye to the crew and fellow travelers.
