The Iris was commissioned in 1916 by The Nereus Shipping Company. As a herring lugger, she made five voyages north near the Shetland Islands. As "Pallas" she remained in herring fishing for ten years. Fortunately, the ship was not damaged during and after the war.

When the herring fishery was no longer profitable in 1920, the Pallas was sold to Sweden. There it is converted into a freighter and renamed "Age". From then on, the ship sailed from Svendborg in the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia for over 40 years. In 1975 the ship returned to the Netherlands and was converted into a seaworthy sailing ship and was used for sailing and management training. In 2001 a new owner came and changed her name to Iris.

Iris is the goddess of goodness and is sent by the supreme god Zeus to bring good tidings to the people. Equipped with a torch and beautiful wings, she is carried by the rainbow and is faster than the wind.

The Iris is very comfortable and suitable for sailing worldwide.

 

Downstairs in the hold is a large lounge with a spacious sitting area and large dining table. There is sufficient space for various activities such as social drinks, meals, but also for workshops, training courses and meetings. For multi-day trips, 8 to 10 guests can be accommodated in one of the five double cabins.

The cabins are equipped with washbasins, running cold and hot water and storage space. During day trips, a maximum of 36 people can come on board.

The Iris has Rotterdam as its home port, but sails beautiful trips throughout Europe during the season. You can sail along as a boarder and the ship can also be rented in its entirety for groups.
