Welcome aboard the Stortemelk
The Stortemelk, launched as a fishing vessel in 1961, was converted into a sailing vessel in 1992. Under the supervision of the Dutch Shipping Inspectorate, a graceful, fast and safe sailing schooner has been developed that can be used for worldwide sailing. Stortemelk owes its name to the infamous, often turbulent, waterways between the Wadden islands of Vlieland and Terschelling. During a westerly storm and receding tide, the wild waves in the tidal inlet were described by the sailors as 'poured milk', later 'Stortemelk'.
Slim lines and efficient rigging give the ship a sporty appearance with excellent sailing properties.
