Sail with the Bontekoek during the Pieperrace. This competition for traditional sailing ships honors the memory of how the Volendammer Kwakken (large botters that were only found in Volendam), were used during the period 1943-1945 to sail potatoes (piepers) from Friesland. The pagers were - among others - intended for the Amsterdam hospitals. The start and finish will take place in front of the Volendammer harbour.
On Friday evening you are welcome on board the sailing ship from 20.00 p.m. You get to know the crew and the other guests. You can stay on board, but if you want you can still go to Volendam in the evening to visit a restaurant or cafe. On Saturday, after a good breakfast, there is work to be done. The professional crew gives explanations and everyone has a place on deck, so that you know what is expected. Sunday is the second day of competition. Of course, a lot of work has to be done again to set a good time. At the end of the afternoon the day will be concluded with the prize giving.
Food allergies and dietary requirements
If you have dietary requirements or allergies, it is best to discuss this before booking. Often it is not a problem, but sometimes some cooperation is expected from the guests if special products have to be purchased, which will then have to be taken by the guests themselves, for example.
