Inverness – Oban by Caledonian Canal

Wednesday 03 May 2023 12: 00 t / m Tuesday 09 May 2023 10: 00

From East to West via Caledonia Canal

A trek through the Highlands of Scotland, discover secluded Loch a'Choire and visit the beautiful island of Kerrera, a walker's paradise.

This will be a week full of surprises and special destinations. For the first half of this journey, the ship sails from East to West through the Caledonian Canal. Here you see the Highlands at its most beautiful! The ship sails over Loch Ness and as a guest you can lend the crew a hand in the locks with mooring. While you sail through the canal you can relax and enjoy the beautiful landscape that passes by like a movie. Do you like walking? Then you can also cover part of the Great Glen Way on foot. The walking guide with all information about the stages is on board.

In the second half of the journey you will sail to Oban and spend the night at beautiful anchorages.

Travel schedule

The program below is a guideline and can be adjusted due to weather conditions, current and wind. Flexibility is the rule on this trip.

Day 1 Inverness
You will be warmly welcomed aboard in Inverness. Steady has a berth on the Caledonian Canal at Muirtown Marina. Here everyone comes on board at noon. Inverness is a pleasant city with authentic cafes, where you can enjoy traditional Scottish music in the evening. This city is definitely worth a look before you start your journey. Visit Inverness Castle and St Andrew's Cathedral, then walk along the banks of the River Ness, or cross the suspension bridge for some rest and relaxation in the Ness Islands.

Day 2
Today the route starts across Loch Ness to Fort Augustus. This cozy village with nice pubs is overrun in summer with tourists who all naturally go in search of the Loch Ness monster.

Day 3
A long sailing day lies ahead with many locks, this is the most beautiful part of the route. The ship is underway all day and ends in Gairlochy.

Day 4
The last day sailing on the Caledonian Canal. You get a view of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Great Britain. At the end of the day, the ship is at the Neptune's staircase, an impressive staircase of locks in which the Steady is lowered no less than 19 meters.

Day 5
Time to hoist the sails! You leave the canal and the ship will spend the night at its own anchor in Loch a'Choir, located in Loch Linnhe. You will enjoy the green environment. The surrounding hills in this Loch invite you to stretch your legs!

Day 6
The last day, the captain sets course for Kerrera. By contrast, compared to all the hustle and bustle of the nearby tourist center of Oban, Kerrera is very quiet, rural and offers beautiful views of the surrounding coastal areas. Cars are prohibited on the island except for the locals making it a walker's paradise. In the afternoon there is ample opportunity for a walk on the island. In the evening we enjoy the Captains dinner together.

Day 7
After an extensive breakfast, the Steady sails the last part to the marina of Oban. After a varied trek, everyone says goodbye to each other at 10.00:XNUMX AM.

This itinerary is intended to give an impression of what a trip could look like. Weather and wind have a major influence on this sailing area. This allows the itinerary to be adjusted, but the crew always wants to sail as much as possible and discover as many different aspects of this area as possible.
