The Brandarisrace is an annual spectacular competition between traditional sailing ships, from Harlingen to Terschelling. The Red Swan sails in this race and gives experienced and untrained sailors the opportunity to participate. Would you like to experience what it is like to sail a race on a two-masted ship and enjoy the action and excitement on board? Then this sporting event is for you!
Friday evening everyone will come aboard in Harlingen. You get to know the permanent crew and the other passengers. This is followed by an explanation of the ins and outs on board, a classification of the deck positions is made and the strategy is discussed.
Saturday morning at 9:00 am the ropes will be released for the Brandaris race. This is a competition with the largest number of traditional sailing ships in the Netherlands. It will therefore be quite spectacular on the water because in addition to sailing hard you also have to keep an eye on your opponents. The finish will be in the afternoon, this can be early with strong and favorable winds and late when the wind fails. Afterwards there is time for a festive get-together in West-Terschelling. It is a pleasant bustle in the harbor with all ships and their passengers.
On Sunday morning around 10:00 am the skipper sets out again for the unofficial second day of the Brandaris race: the sailing trip back to Harlingen.
Due to the layout with one race day on Saturday, this weekend is ideal if you want to be active sailing but also want to have a nice weekend. You don't have to be an experienced sailor to race with, but basic knowledge of sailing is useful.
Food allergies and dietary requirements
If you have dietary requirements or allergies, it is best to discuss this before booking. Often it is not a problem, but sometimes some cooperation is expected from the guests if special products have to be purchased, which will then have to be taken by the guests themselves, for example.
