The Marker Wadden is a unique new nature reserve, located in the middle of the Markermeer. These nature islands are constructed with sand, clay and silt from the Markermeer. This huge project contributes to improving the biodiversity of this artificial lake. The new group of islands will be a great breeding ground for fish and birds by creating natural banks and shallow water spots.
There is no ferry service to the Marker Wadden, but you can sail there with the Egberdina. Depending on the wind, this takes about two to three hours. The combination of sailing, hiking and bird watching makes for a wonderfully varied day.
10:30 am welcome from Egberdina in Hoorn, with coffee and West Frisian currants. After a short introduction to the ship and crew, a short introduction to the Marker Wadden by skipper and biologist Wouter van Dusseldorp follows. After this the mooring lines can be released and the sails raised.
Around half past twelve they serve a lunch with soup and tasty healthy sandwiches
After this, the ship moors in the harbor of the main island. You will be on the island for one and a half to two hours, this also depends on the wind. There is plenty of opportunity to explore the island or to walk one of the two walking routes (3 or 6 km). After this the ship sails back to the harbor of Hoorn.
Mooring at 17:30 pm in the harbor of Hoorn, under the famous 'Scheepsjongens van Bontekoe'. If the wind is against you it might get a little later.
Price: € 70.00 per person, including coffee, West Frisian currants, lunch, snacks and entrance to the Marker Wadden.
Food allergies and dietary requirements
If you have dietary requirements or allergies, it is best to discuss this before booking. Often it is not a problem, but sometimes some cooperation is expected from the guests if special products have to be purchased, which will then have to be taken by the guests themselves, for example.
