Welcome to the scallop shell
The scallop shell was built in 1899 in Dokkum as “Hope for the better”. For its length, a sturdy boat, suitable for inland and open water, at the time the Zuydersee and the Waddenzee. Until 1940, the tjalk was a sailing freighter, capable of carrying thirty tons of cargo. Since 1994, the Scallop with skippers Bertie Geurts and Gerrit Portengen has been sailing the water thinly as a pleasure craft.
Sailing from Weesp and Muiden
The Jacobsschelp sails the day trips from Muiden and a weekend or multi-day trip starts in Weesp. Departure from another port is also possible at an additional cost. This is a flat-bottomed boat where sailing takes center stage, traps and shots go by hand before you know it you're at the helm!
It is an ideal vessel for a small group of 6-12 people. We sail on the Vecht, the Markermeer, IJsselmeer, Frisian lakes, the Wadden Sea, German Wadden, Baltic Sea. And there is a spacious cockpit, making it a safe ship for young and old.

Interior
The scallop shell is very beautiful and attractively finished with a lot of woodwork. The ship is equipped with a fully equipped galley with hot and cold water, a refrigerator and a toilet with sink. There is headroom everywhere, except for the cages in front of the mast. Inside is a spacious table for a game or something to read.
Sailing on the flat-bottomed scallop shell
Sailing and turning off the engine, that's what it's all about on this beautiful flat-bottomed boat. The scallop has a rigging and side swords that go directly on the hand, so you quickly see how something works. Because the ship has only 75 cm draft, it can reach almost anywhere. There are several headsails. Sporty landlubbers and experienced sailors have something to do on board. In the cockpit it is comfortable and you can relax for a long time on the front deck.
