school trip texel ecomare

Midweek island hopping with a visit to Ecomare and a trip on a fishing boat

Step on board for a special school trip on the Wadden. A sailing trip with one or more ships is a perfect way to go out with a group of young people. During the day there is sailing and it is possible to moor on a different island every day. Staying in the port for a day to undertake activities ashore is of course also possible.

Zeilendeschepen.nl offers complete sailing trips for schools, including carefully selected activities on the islands.

Island hopping program

On Monday morning everyone comes on board in Harlingen and after a sailing instruction from the ship's crew, the mooring lines are released. The ship sets sail to set course for Texel. The students will hoist the sails together with the sailor. Along the way there is plenty to see and do, set sails, steer and enjoy the beautiful nature reserve. At the end of the afternoon the ship will arrive in the harbor of Cocksdorp. After an exploration of the port of Texel and the beach, everyone comes back on board for a joint meal. Because sea air makes you hungry! After dinner you can take a walk and then crawl under the wool tired, but satisfied and pink, on to day two.

Tuesday - The ship stays in the port of Texel for a day, today the group sets out! The bikes are ready at the ship and after a short bike ride you arrive at Ecomare. After an introduction by the people of Ecomare, you will go through the museum with assignments to learn as much as possible about nature on Texel, the Wadden and North Sea and life at the bottom of the sea. If there is still time left, a bike ride can be made before everyone goes back on board.

Wednesday- After breakfast it is time to leave for the next Wadden Island. The sails are hoisted, the engine is switched off and then it is time to enjoy the wind in your hair and the sun on your face. This is a long journey and because a route on the Wadden Sea is never in a straight line because of the sandbanks, there is still help with sailing along the way. And maybe even a seal can be seen in the waves.
After a few hours of wandering on the mudflats, you will arrive in the harbor of West-Terschelling. The rest of the afternoon you can explore the nice village and walk in the woods, through the dunes to the beach. This is a very nice walk which goes along a viewpoint and where you have to climb steep dunes.

Thursday will be an exciting day. After breakfast you are expected on board the TS3-Viking. At half past ten the fishing ship sails out towards the Wad. The trawls are collected and brought on deck. On the water table you can see which special marine animals live in the Wadden Sea. Seen everything? Then the sea animals go back into the sea and it happily lives on.
The afternoon is free to fill in. There is plenty to do and see on West-Terschelling. You can stroll and shop in the village. Swimming on the Green beach or walking through the dunes and forests are good options!

Friday - The lines are released to return to Harlingen! Depending on the current and the wind, the ship will return to shore around 14.30 pm. As a souvenir of this unforgettable trip, the students receive a nice gift upon arrival at the port.
