Roaming the Wad with the children

Sunday 15 August 2021 19: 00 t / m Friday 20 August 2021 15: 00

A wonderful trip with the family

These family trips are especially intended for families with children up to about 16 years of age. Single-parent families are of course also very welcome. There is also plenty to do on board for older children, everyone can actively help sail the ship. Adventures are experienced such as falling dry and looking for shells on a sandbank in the Wadden Sea, or mooring at an island on the Lauwersmeer to swim and make a campfire. This is the 13th year that this sailing trip is sailed. This trip is sailed in 2 parts. First from Stavoren to Groningen and then the trip back to the IJsselmeer.

Travel information

This is a special sailing holiday in which the ship visits almost all the Wadden Islands: the first week the route goes from Stavoren in an easterly direction across the Wad to Groningen city. The first voyage ends in Groningen and the sailors embark for the second voyage. The second week, the ship sails back across the Wad in a westerly direction, but the journey then ends in Harlingen.

The children have playmates together and the parents also make it cozy together with a snack and drink on deck. Travel times are adapted to the children. So do not sail too long in succession, and the skipper also sails in such a way that the children can actively help with setting sail and steering, for example.
Sailing on a large ship is a huge adventure for children! When they steer the ship with the steering wheel, they feel themselves growing. From the ship you can see seals lying on the sandbanks of the Wadden Sea in the sun on the way.

The crew of the Hoop Doet Leven is used to the young sailors and knows exactly how to help the children safely and how to give children the feeling that they are really doing something. For the children, a sailing ship is a play paradise on the water.
This trip is of course also great fun for the parents. For example, you can go on the island together, have a drink on deck and have a nice (after) dinner.

Boarding in Stavoren or Groningen

Although the embarkation and disembarkation at different places is a bit tricky, it also offers an important advantage: this way it becomes a real relaxing holiday trip along the Wadden Islands, without having to return halfway through the trip to be sure that you reach the port of departure again. As a result, there is also time to spend a day in the harbor and explore the island. There is an excellent rail connection between Groningen and Stavoren so that you can easily travel back to your parked car by train after the trip. The return journey is from Groningen to Harlingen.

Child safe sailing

Children's life jackets are on board and it is mandatory to wear it during the cruise. Of course, the experienced crew ensures that the children and parents are familiarized with on board, both inside and on deck. However, the parents keep the responsibility for the children on board.
De Hoop Doet Leven is a child-friendly ship, with a good railing all around that is closed at child height. There is plenty of leeway on deck and inside.

Cooking and eating together

On this trip there is no cook on board, you cook together (with whomever feels like helping) and in consultation. It's fun to do something like this together and, moreover, the trip remains so affordable. As far as necessary, the groceries are on board when embarking and the crew coordinates the shopping and cooking.
