Spitsbergen special: photography trip with the Antigua

Longyearbyen - West and North coast of Spitsbergen - Longyearbyen

A wonderful journey along the beautiful coast with glaciers and jagged mountain peaks. A journey you will never forget and where you can take special photos of nature and life on board.

Program

In the afternoon the Antigua crew expects the guests on board. After you move into the cabin, the captain and his crew will welcome you and tell you everything you need to know about life on board. Then the ropes are released and the ship slides through the water of the Isfjord. The route leads along the west and north coast of Spitsbergen and the captain, together with the tour guide, selects the most beautiful landing places - taking into account the weather, wind and ice conditions.
For longer distances, the ship also sails at night, otherwise it anchors in the shelter of a fjord. On land, there are excursions to relics from different periods of Spitsbergen's history, such as tear furnaces and graves at old whaling stations, trapper's huts, weather stations and coal mines. But you can also encounter traces of well-known explorers such as Roald Amundsen and Umberto Nobile during these excursions.

expedition leader

There is also an expedition leader on board, who can tell you everything about this beautiful area, its history and flora and fauna. This guide takes you ashore on the daily excursions. The expedition trip has the theme 'photography' and is accompanied by a photographer. He also organizes various lectures and photo sessions on board and guides the practical sessions during the excursions. At this time of the year, the light creates a very special atmosphere, ideal for taking the most beautiful photos. In September, the first snow can also cover the landscape under a beautiful white blanket and with a little luck the northern lights can be spotted.

There will be one or two shore excursions per day, with an emphasis on photography, but also with the space and time to experience this unique nature. Hopleijk can show the crew as much as possible of the arctic wildlife: whales, arctic foxes, walruses, birds and of course the polar bear. The crew will do its utmost to visit the best places for that; Of course they cannot give a guarantee on seeing the wildlife. In between excursions, the Antigua sails to a new destination. In time at sea, you can chat with your fellow travelers in the warm salon over a cup of tea, read a book or even edit your photos. When the Antigua arrives in Longyearbyen again, it is definitely worth spending some time in Longyearbyen.

Route

The crew does not work with a daily itinerary from the program, as they like to be able to anticipate the weather and the location of any whales and other wildlife. The crew and the expedition leader coordinate the route in such a way that the best possible route is sailed. If you would like more information in advance, do not hesitate to contact us. And of course wind and weather can influence the travel program.
